This month one of our attorneys participated in the Waldwick Lions Club’s annual carnival. The carnival was held at the Forum School Grounds in Waldwick, New Jersey. Elevators Are Not As Safe As You Think

“Complex instrumentalities”, such as elevators, are frequently the cause of personal injuries. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Consumer Product Safety Commission, on average, 27 people are killed in elevator accidents each year. The same study revealed that on average about 10,200 people are injured by elevators each year. Most of these accidents and injuries are said to be caused by “door malfunction, carriage misalignment with floors, and passenger safety vulnerabilities.” [i] [Read more…]

New Jersey High Court Upholds Red Decals for Young New Jersey Drivers
The New Jersey Supreme Court has unanimously upheld a requirement that teenage drivers display a red decal on their license plates to allow law enforcement to identify them. NYC School Construction Injuries Indicate Lack of Safety
New York City’s School Construction Authority says it expects to pay about $270 million to settle injury claims by construction workers for accidents that occurred in 2009. That’s about 10 times more than the authority spent about 10 years ago. While some say this indicates a growing readiness by construction workers to file claims when they’re hurt, we know that the payments may point to inadequate safety measures at construction sites. Swimming Pool and Water-Related Accidents Rise in the Summer

Teenage Drivers and the Accident Rate
In the early morning hours of July 16, a car full of New Jersey teenagers was involved in a crash on Route 23 South by the Smoke Rise Turn, according to law enforcement officials and news reports. The investigation that followed the accident determined that the vehicle veered off the roadway and traveled sideways across the grass median before hitting a guardrail and flipping over. Law enforcement agencies are investigating whether alcohol and reckless driving played a part in the accident. [Read more…]
