What Happened
On June 5, 2019, construction workers were on a scaffold at a job site in Bordentown when it gave way, sending all workers plummeting approximately 20 feet to the ground. The lawsuit alleged that the scaffold had been installed backwards by the contractors on site, creating the dangerous and unstable condition that led to the collapse.
Catastrophic Injuries and a Family Changed Forever
Among those injured were brothers Juan and Hector. Juan, 38 at the time, sustained a traumatic brain injury along with cervical disc herniations at multiple levels, requiring anterior cervical discectomies and fusions from C3 to C6. The cognitive damage was significant.
His brother Hector, 53, suffered cervical disc herniations at C3-4, C4-5, and C5-6, along with adjacent segment syndrome and cervical instability. He underwent two spinal fusion surgeries. Throughout his own painful recovery, Hector’s primary concern was not himself, it was whether his younger brother would survive.
